Health alerts : Simple tips for sinusitis

Sinus is one of the most common problems a lot of people face. One of the most prominent causes for sinus to appear is allergens and also weather change. The cold weather is the worst enemy for people with sinusitis.

To relieve you of the pressure in the head region caused by sinus and the congestion, here are a few basic home remedies that you can incorporate so that you can rest well every night and have a better following day.

A simple remedy to alleviate sinus related pain would be to mix a drop of eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil. Pine tree oil can also be added with the mixture but people who have high blood pressure should avoid pine tree oil since it is known to increase blood pressure. The mixture of the oil drops is added to four cups of water and boiled and the steam is inhaled. For best results, use a towel to cover your head and the vessel like a tent so that maximum steam is inhaled. This should be done for 15 to 20 minutes to experience relief.

An even simpler relief spray that you can use is salt water. Saltwater provides more relief than you think. Boil around 250ml of water. Pour in into a clean bottle or jar and add a teaspoon on salt and mix well. If you have a spray bottle, use it to spray this saline solution into your nose. Wait for a minute and then blow your nose. Saltwater helps to thin down the mucus and help expel it naturally out of your system and relieve the congestion.

One last thing you can add into your room when you go to sleep is a humidifier. The humid warmth helps you to breathe easily since it keeps the congestion away. You can also use a vaporizer. Also remember to sleep with your head elevated as this will help avoid blockages and mucus accumulation in the head region.

Remember, these remedies are for people with mild or moderate sinus problems. If you have severe sinusitis which has spread into your respiratory organs or your eyes, then it is very important to consult your doctor since this can be helped only with a surgical removal of the accumulated mucus.
