Job Position : Materials Characterisation Scientist
Job Location : United Kingdom - Sandwich
Job Purpose:
Pfizer is looking for a scientist to work effectively within a motivated team to prepare timely material characterisation support to Pfizer Global Supply Network.
Major Duties:
•Laboratory based, working with a broad range of material characterisation techniques like particle characterisation, materials assessment & spectroscopic methods.
•Evaluation, interpretation and result reporting through presentations
•Using theory and practical knowledge of processes related to pharmaceutical manufacturing , for drug product and API, along with materials characterisation work to underpin API and/or formulation process changes or developments.
•Authority for selected laboratory areas and instrumentation , including maintaining high standards related to safety, repair & maintenance schedules and colleague training.
•Identification and evaluation of new characterisation technologies that bring extra knowledge to the team as well as advancement of the application of existing methodologies.
Skills and Experience Required
Education Qulaification
•Degree in a related subject
•Proof of sustained level of achievement
•Practical experience in a related environment.
•Ability to learn and apply established procedures in a consistent and reliable manner.
Experience
•Experience in characterisation and measurements needs of modern pharmaceutical production.
•Experience of practical aspects of materials characterisation development
•Experience in practical application of solid state characterisation methods like X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy and thermal methods
•Experience in application of methods like particle sizing and surface area measurement.
•Experience in performing , plannin and reporting experimental programmes.
•Experience in the application of methods for materials assessment prediction of manufacturing performance.
Technical Ability
•Theoretical knowledge and practical ability in particle characterisation, including determination of particle shape and size.
•Experience in methods to understand compression,powder flow and segregation.
•Experience in the application and development of analytical methods to address resolution of problem.
•Experience in understanding and application of methods to understand elctrostatic and surface properties.
•Ability to determine material(in liquid state) attributes .
•Understanding the principles of characterization in solid state.
•Understanding of spectroscopic methods and their application to pharmaceuticals including appropriate utilisation of spectroscopic imaging and mappin methods for pharmaceutical matrix evaluations.
•Evidence of good experimental and lab skills.
•Ability to independently carry out abd design experiments.
•Understanding of chemometric and statistical approaches for analysis of data and interpretation.
•Sound scientific judgement in own work and in problem solving
•Creative and innovative approach for problem solving
•Contributions to project direction and strategy.
•A proven achiever, e.g. problems solved ,targets met
•Good awareness of lab safety
•Good skills in literature searching and application of findings
